together, Danny Onionz embodies introspective storytelling combined with catchy beats, serving as a bridge between present-day and '90s-era hip-hop... where every bar peels back a layer of the onion boy's reality.

the name
the name "Danny Onionz" contains three layers of meaning, each one rooted in reality... heritage, roots, and unity.
in Romance languages, my last name means "onion." when a dear friend, Stubhy of Lucky Boys Confusion, found out, he gifted me the name "Danny Onionz." it was during a period when I was searching for something more honest in my art. it stuck because it was me... the name I was born with became the name I create under, my city is in my name before I ever chose it and oneness, unity... that's the core of everything I make. every bar, every beat, every collaboration circles back to the idea that we're all connected. concentric layers of the same reality, spiraling inward toward the same truth.

the origin
my musical journey began around 2015. DJ Premier and Royce da 5'9" released PRhyme, and Mac Miller's raw honesty on the album's track "Dat Sound Good" shook me to the core. I was struggling personally, searching for a healthier outlet... and hip-hop, the thing that gave me joy as a kid growing up in Chicago, became the answer... a seed was planted.
a year later, at a music festival looking down into a pit of people dancing and vibing, I felt a duality... love and the illusion of fear, existing at the same time. I wrote those feelings down, and they became the foundation for my first song as Danny Onionz, "ET." on January 6, 2018, after 18 months of refining the track with my cousin producer, it was born... there was no going back. I was "on the verge of finding it..."
the music
since then, the music has continued to evolve... driven by a love for the craft and a commitment to creating work that resonates.
a defining moment came when I stumbled upon an instrumental by producer Szur called "My Life." instantly inspired, I created the demo for what would become "ON THE DAILY" the same day, drawing from the beat's original title to shape the song's subject matter.
during the recording process, I connected with Shady Records’ artist WESTSIDE BOOGIE, leading to a dream collaboration. Boogie’s enthusiasm for my previous work, “1920s,” set the stage for “ON THE DAILY." the result was a track praised by New Golden Era Hip-hop for its “vibey verses and impeccably smooth flow between a catchy hook.”
"ON THE DAILY" has surpassed 100,000 streams. but the true success lies in the messages I receive from listeners who find inspiration and comfort in the music. "ON THE DAILY" is a dedication to Mac Miller and a reminder that no one is alone in their healing... whether they face anxiety, depression, or other struggles.

the philosophy
everything I create comes back to one idea... peeling back the layers.
an onion is concentric. you peel one layer and there's another underneath... ego, surface-level thinking, fear, comfort, identity, all the way down to something raw and true.
the music is a vibration of that process. my writing is an inscription of that process. the pillars of this site, vibrations, perceptions, reflections, and manifestations, are that process organized into the ways we experience the onion boy's reality... through sound, sight, mind, and physical form.
at the core of every layer, there are only two forces... love and fear. that duality I felt at the festival in 2016 is the same duality in every song I write. the work is transmuting darkness to light. the work is being honest enough to say what's actually there, and brave enough to share it.
hip-hop, for me, is a spiritual practice. it's the lineage of KRS-One, Rakim, Nas, Black Thought, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller... artists who treated the craft as a vehicle for truth. I position myself within that tradition, not above it. every creation is an attempt to honor it.
