Hey Onion Headz,
First off, a massive shoutout to each one of you for your unwavering love and support. Being on this musical journey with you has been nothing short of spectacular, and believe me, we’re only scratching the surface. If you’ve been vibing with my Instagram, you know that you all proudly wear the title of “onion headz”.
And who could forget the unveiling of “onion boy” - our collaborative logo created with the genius of Chicago artist/muralist/illustrator Bird Milk? That iconic logo has graced every email you’ve opened from me, a testament to the exclusive content promised to you.
Do you remember that beat from Szur which set my world on fire and brought “ON THE DAILY” to life? It’s not just a track for me but a symphony of moments, inspirations, and a mirror to my evolution as Danny Onionz. Well, the story doesn’t end there.
Following “RTO”, I released a collaborative track with my cousin, Chris Anderson, called "1920s.” I’m so inspired by Chris's ability to rap and create harmonies and melodies that I couldn’t resist asking to hop on the track with him. Within a day or so of Chris allowing me to collaborate with him, the rest of the track was finished. The infectious beat backing "1920s" with that dusty piano sample was crafted by Jay Rhydon, an 8x Billboard-charting producer from the U.K.
Once released, I sent it to everyone I knew to garner support, and to a bunch of artists that inspire me. I really wasn’t concerned with the reception of the track because at this point I am fully in love with the process. "1920s" is such a fun song and it’s gotten great reception, but I knew a style change was coming with the work Szur and I had in the vault.
My plan was to release a song every month, and “ON THE DAILY” was next in March. During the recording process for “ON THE DAILY”, I received feedback on Instagram on "1920s" from one of the artists I sent it to. Who was it? None other than the man I met 4 years earlier in Australia and introduced myself to as Danny Onionz, WESTSIDE BOOGIE. Life is crazy sometimes and the universe works in mysterious ways.
If I was ready to work then and now, WESTSIDE BOOGIE was down to collaborate. I knew in my gut “ON THE DAILY” was the perfect song for him. It had just the right touch of west coast sounds and an introspective topic that WESTSIDE BOOGIE does so well. Within a couple of days, I had finished the track. During that time, the hook changed drastically as I solely listened to Mac Miller’s “Small Worlds” and used it as my guiding light during the recording process. I sent the track to WESTSIDE BOOGIE, and in the same energy the track started with it, being created the first day it was heard, the song was completed sent back to me same day. And as they say, the rest is history.
Keeping true to my promise of exclusivity for my Onion Headz, I’m dropping an early access link to the “ON THE DAILY” music video. Before it becomes the talk of the town, you, my day-ones, get the first seat to the cinematic magic we’ve crafted.
It’s not just “sound and color”; it’s a journey, a manifestation of the essence of the song. Every scene, every note is a labor of love, and I trust it’ll strike a chord in your heart just as it did track’s guitar sample.
This golden ticket is only for you. Dive in, relish the exclusivity, and do share your genuine thoughts. Your vibes, have been the north star of my journey, whether you know it or not.
Gratitude for riding with me, for amplifying my voice, and for echoing the vision of Danny Onionz. Together, we’re not just hitting notes; we’re making symphonies.
Peace!
Danny
