Don’t hide fear in the form of PRacticality

I hope this finds you well, immersed in the rhythms and rhymes that give life its pulse. If you dove into my last email, you might have journeyed through the first echoes of my music. If not, go back and listen to those tracks. It’s a reflection of my evolution.

The inception of my first song, “PRacticality”, draws its stylistic essence from the album “PRhyme,” a tribute to the influential Royce da 5’9” and DJ Premier creation, which lit the path of my musical voyage. “PRacticality” opens with the bar, “Don’t hide fear in the form of practicality”, a wisdom imparted not by a musician, but surprisingly, by Jim Carrey during a commencement speech at Maharishi University of Management (MUM).

MUM, a nucleus of consciousness-centered education incorporating transcendental meditation, became an unwitting muse as I stumbled upon Jim’s words on YouTube. He spoke of fear as an inevitable companion in life, but emphasized the power we have to determine its influence. He stated, “So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality... we never dare to ask the universe for it,” a realization that deeply resonated with me.

The concluding lyrics of “PRacticality,” “Tragedy n’ agony leads to alchemy of my vitality/ And me as your motherfucking majesty,” pay homage to the father of multisyllabic rhyming, Rakim. He uttered similar words in “My Melody” from the “Paid in Full” album rapping, “'Cause my strategy has to be tragedy, catastrophe/ And after this you'll call me your majesty/ My melody”.

Embedding these lines in my inaugural song serves as a perpetual reminder to me: to never let fear masked as practicality be the driving force in my journey, and to always honor the pioneers of hip-hop from whom I draw inspiration.

So, I invite you listen to “PRacticality” and dive into the layers of its creation, and then explore my most recent song “One Day”. You will see that spark of consciousness that started in 2016 continue reverberate through to my work in 2023. Thanks for listening.

Peace!

Danny
